La collaborazione nasce dal <strong>legame storico tra l\u2019Istituto e Volta, che fu tra i suoi primi membri e di cui l&#8217;Istituto conserva tuttora l\u2019archivio personale e professionale.<\/strong> A questo si affianca la missione dell\u2019Istituto di promuovere la cultura scientifica, sostenendo studenti e ricercatori di tutti i livelli con borse, premi e accesso al proprio patrimonio documentario, e organizzando o ospitando manifestazioni scientifiche e di alta divulgazione.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confidiamo che la <strong>coincidenza tra l\u2019anniversario voltiano e la storica sede <\/strong>che ospiter\u00e0 l&#8217;evento, insieme a una serie di <strong>iniziative di terza missione <\/strong>ad esso correlate, <strong>possa offrire all&#8217;elettrochimica italiana, e pi\u00f9 in generale all&#8217;elettrochimica, una importante occasione di visibilit\u00e0.<\/strong> Tra queste iniziative figurano interventi <em>keynote <\/em>di autorevoli <em>stakeholder<\/em><strong> <\/strong>attivi nei diversi ambiti dell&#8217;elettrochimica, complementari agli interventi <em>plenary\/keynote<\/em> di carattere scientifico di ospiti internazionali; la <strong>registrazione degli interventi pi\u00f9 significativi per la loro diffusione<\/strong> sul canale <em>YouTube<\/em> dell\u2019Istituto Lombardo e sul sito <em>web<\/em> della Sezione Lombardia della Societ\u00e0 Chimica Italiana; un <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/school-contest-da-volta-a\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"85\">concorso con evento dedicato alle scuole secondarie di secondo grado in Lombardia<\/a><\/strong>, intitolato \u201c<strong>Dall\u2019elettrochimica di Alessandro Volta a\u2026 dove ci porter\u00e0 l\u2019elettrochimica nel futuro?<\/strong>\u201d); e, come eventi satellite, a Villa Grumello (Lago di Como), la <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/satellite-magnolia-school\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"270\">MAGNOLIA PhD and PostDoc School<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Volta di Como, su temi di frontiera in magnetoelettrochimica e spintronica, e a Cervia (Riviera Adriatica) la <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/satellite-nanosoli-phd-postdoc-school-cervia\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"722\"><em>NANOSOLI PhD and PostDoc School<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, sullo studio interdisciplinare delle interfasi strutturate solido liquido. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Durante il convegno sar\u00e0 conferita dalla Divisione di Elettrochimica della Societ\u00e0 Chimica Italiana la prestigiosa <strong>Medaglia Galvani 2026<\/strong>, destinata a uno scienziato straniero che abbia fornito un contributo eccezionale allo sviluppo dell\u2019elettrochimica. Quest\u2019anno, per la prima volta, il riconoscimento sar\u00e0 assegnato a una donna: la <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/galvani-medal-2026\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"391\">Professoressa Shelley Minteer (USA)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inoltre, nel corso dell\u2019inaugurazione, il Presidente dell\u2019Istituto Lombardo conferir\u00e0 formalmente la nomina a <strong>Socio Onorario<\/strong> al <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.academie-sciences.fr\/en\/christian-amatore\">Professor Christian Amatore<\/a><\/strong> (Francia), membro dell\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des Sciences di Francia e figura di riferimento della moderna elettrochimica a livello internazionale. Il Professor Amatore aprir\u00e0 i lavori congressuali con la conferenza inaugurale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Un numero speciale di <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/electrochimica-acta\"><em>Electrochimica Acta<\/em>,<\/a><\/strong> l&#8217;autorevole giornale ufficiale della <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ise-online.org\/#gsc.tab=0\"><strong><em>International Society of Electrochemistry<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, edito dalla Elsevier, sar\u00e0 dedicato al nostro congresso in questa speciale circostanza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auspichiamo inoltre che la rilevanza mediatica dell\u2019iniziativa contribuisca a far conoscere anche ai non specialisti, e in particolare ai giovani, l\u2019attualit\u00e0 e potenzialit\u00e0 dell\u2019elettrochimica per obiettivi strategici quali la <strong>sostenibilit\u00e0 energetica e industriale, la salvaguardia e controllo dell\u2019ambiente<\/strong> e lo <strong>sviluppo di dispositivi, processi e applicazioni sempre pi\u00f9 intelligenti e innovativi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019evento avr\u00e0 quest\u2019anno anche una <strong>peculiare valenza storico culturale<\/strong>. I partecipanti al convegno avranno infatti la possibilit\u00e0 di fare la conoscenza di tutti e tre i grandi siti voltiani:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a <strong>Milano<\/strong>, l\u2019<strong>archivio di Alessandro Volta<\/strong> conservato presso l\u2019Istituto Lombardo nella sede di Palazzo Landriani adiacente a quella del Palazzo di Brera;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>Como<\/strong>, il Tempio Voltiano, nonch\u00e9 i luoghi legati ad Alessandro Volta, con una <strong>trasferta a Como appositamente organizzata dove faremo una &#8220;storica&#8221; foto degli elettrochimici presso il Tempio Voltiano<\/strong>; ricorderemo anche il famoso convegno di celeberrimi fisici un secolo fa nel primo centenario voltiano;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>il patrimonio di cimeli e la ricostruzione del <strong>laboratorio di Volta dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 di<\/strong> <strong>Pavia<\/strong>, con la presentazione di un esperto durante l\u2019evento inaugurale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In effetti l\u2019elettrochimica ha un legame unico con la Lombardia, in quanto non solo vi \u00e8 nata come scienza con Alessandro Volta, ma vi \u00e8 stata subito, fin dal XIX secolo, applicata industrialmente; tra la fine del XIX secolo e l\u2019inizio del XX secolo ha visto crearsi un autorevole nucleo accademico sia alla \u201cRegia Scuola di Ingegneria di Milano\u201d poi diventata Politecnico, sia, poco dopo, alla nascente Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Milano; e ancor oggi \u00e8 la regione italiana in cui l\u2019elettrochimica \u00e8 rappresentata dal maggior numero di docenti\/ricercatori nonch\u00e9 da numerose imprese operanti in diversi settori, una delle quali pioniera e leader internazionale nel campo dell\u2019ingegneria e tecnologia dei processi elettrochimici industriali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>The GEI 2026 congress in Milan on the occasion of Volta&#8217;s bicentenary<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>On the eve of the <strong>bicentenary (March 5th, 2027) of Alessandro Volta, the \u201cfather\u201d of electrochemistry<\/strong>, the &#8220;Giornate dell&#8217;Elettrochimica Italiana&#8221; (Italian Electrochemistry Days) conference, the annual national congress of the Electrochemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society, will take place from Monday 14th to Friday 18th September 2026 in Milan, in the historic Palazzo di Brera, home to the Pinacoteca and the Academy of the same name, in collaboration with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/listituto-lombardo-accademia-di-scienze-e-lettere\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"122\">Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere<\/a><\/strong>. This collaboration stems from <strong>the historical bond between the Institute and Volta<\/strong>, <strong>who was among its first members and whose personal and professional archive is still preserved by the Institute.<\/strong> It is also aligned with the Institute\u2019s mission to promote scientific culture by supporting students and researchers at all levels through scholarships, awards, and access to its documentary heritage, as well as by organizing or hosting scientific events and high-level outreach initiatives.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We trust that the coincidence between the Volta anniversary and the historic venue hosting the event\u2014together with a series of related third mission initiatives\u2014may offer Italian electrochemistry, and electrochemistry more broadly, an important opportunity for visibility. Among these initiatives are keynote lectures by <strong>representatives of<\/strong><\/em><strong><em> <em><strong>prominent <\/strong><\/em>stakeholders<\/em><\/strong><em> active in different areas of electrochemistry, complementing the s<strong>cientific plenary and keynote presentations of international scholars<\/strong>; the <strong>recording of the most significant contributions for dissemination<\/strong> on the YouTube channel of the Istituto Lombardo and on the website of the Lombardy Section of the Italian Chemical Society; a <strong>competition with a dedicated event for upper secondary schools<\/strong> in Lombardy, entitled&nbsp;<strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/school-contest-da-volta-a\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"85\">From Alessandro Volta\u2019s electrochemistry to\u2026 where will electrochemistry lead us in the future?<\/a><\/strong>\u201d; and, as satellite events, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/satellite-magnolia-school\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"270\">MAGNOLIA PhD and PostDoc school<\/a><\/strong> <em>at Villa Grumello (Como Lake)<\/em>, focused on frontier topics in magnetoelectrochemistry and spintronics, in collaboration with Fondazione Volta (Como), and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/satellite-nanosoli-phd-postdoc-school-cervia\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"722\">NANOSOLI PhD and PostDoc School<\/a><\/strong> <em>at Cervia (Adriatic Sea)<\/em>, focused on interdisciplinary studies of solid|liquid interfaces.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>During the conference, the Division of Electrochemistry of the Italian Chemical Society will award the prestigious <strong>Galvani Medal 2026<\/strong>, granted to a distinguished foreign scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of electrochemistry. This year, for the first time, the award will be presented to a woman: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unimi.it\/GEI2026\/galvani-medal-2026\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"391\">Professor Shelley Minteer (USA)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, during the \u0909\u0926\u094d\u0918uration, the President of the Istituto Lombardo will formally confer the title of <strong>Honorary Member<\/strong> of the Institute upon <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.academie-sciences.fr\/en\/christian-amatore\">Professor Christian Amatore<\/a><\/strong>, a member of the French Acad\u00e9mie des Sciences and a leading figure in modern electrochemistry at the international level. Professor Amatore will open the conference proceedings with the inaugural lecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Moreover a special issue of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/electrochimica-acta\">Electrochimica Acta,<\/a><\/strong> the authoritative official journal of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ise-online.org\/#gsc.tab=0\"><strong>International Society of Electrochemistry<\/strong><\/a>, edited by Elsevier, will be dedicated to our congress on this special occasion.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We also hope that the media relevance of the initiative may help <strong>bring to the attention of the general public\u2014and particularly young people\u2014the current importance and potential of electrochemistry for strategic objectives such as energy and industrial sustainability, environmental protection and monitoring, and the development of increasingly intelligent and innovative devices, processes, and applications.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This year&#8217;s event will also have a unique historical and cultural significance. Conference participants will have the opportunity to make the acquaintance with all three major Volta sites:<br><br><strong>in Milan<\/strong>, the <strong>Alessandro Volta archive<\/strong>, housed at the I<strong>stituto Lombardo in Palazzo Landriani<\/strong>, adjacent to Palazzo di Brera;<br><br><strong>in Como<\/strong>, <strong>the Volta Temple, as well as sites associated with Alessandro Volta<\/strong>, with a specially organized trip to Como where a &#8220;historical&#8221; electrochemistry scientists photo will be taken by the Volta temple; we will also recall the historic conference of famous physics scholars, that was held a century ago in Como on the first Volta centenary;<br><br>the <strong>collection of memorabilia and the reconstruction of the laboratory at the University of Pavia<\/strong>, with a presentation by an expert during the inaugural event.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Indeed, electrochemistry has a unique connection with Lombardy, as it not only originated as a science with Alessandro Volta, but was also immediately applied industrially there, starting in the 19th century. Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, it saw the creation of a prestigious academic core both at the &#8220;Royal School of Engineering of Milan,&#8221; which later became the Polytechnic, and, shortly thereafter, at the nascent University of Milan.
