STEC is a food- and waterborne pathogen that can cause severe outbreaks in humans. The O157 is the most common serotype followed by O103, O145, O91, O111 and O146, the so-called non-O157. Due to the increasing in antibiotic-resistance, the phage therapy for STEC could be a valid alternative for pathogen control. One of the aims of the project is to obtain a cocktail of phages capable to control STEC strains, which could then be used on ready-to-eat (RTE) foods.

Project keywords

Food pathogens, STEC, bacteriophages

Contacts

Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences (DeFENS; Via Mangiagalli 25, Milano, 4th floor, lab 4018)

nicola.mangieri@unimi.it

Sponsor

Fellowship sponsor: Università degli Studi di Milano

Publications

Peer reviewed

Beccalli M., Picozzi C., Mangieri N., Vigentini I. and Foschino R.
