Each product, after a critical processing point, needs a real-time control to ensure the highest quality required by the customers.

Fast and precise analytical methods are essential to ensure product quality, safety, authenticity and compliance with labelling. Traditional methods and tools of food monitoring (e.g. high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry) are time-consuming, expensive and require sample destruction.

Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is well established as a non-destructive tool for multi-constituent quality analysis of food materials during the productive process. However, this technique requires good know-how and it provides punctual information about the product.

Therefore, the goal of the project is to elaborate a new kind of customized and simplified instruments, based on NIR techniques, which are easy to use, less expensive and provide the best information required.

Project keywords

Food quality, Industry 4.0, non-destructive techniques, simplified devices.

Contacts

Address: Via Celoria, 2, 20133 – Milano (MI)

Affiliation: Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – Production, Landscape, Agroenergy

E-mail: alessio.tugnolo@unimi.it;

Office phone: 02503 16865

Collaborations

Roberto Beghi

Address: Via Celoria, 2, 20133 – Milano (MI)

Institution: Università degli Studi di Milano

Affiliation: Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences -Production, Landscape, Agroenergy (DiSAA)

Valentina Giovenzana

Address: Via Celoria, 2, 20133 – Milano (MI)

Institution: Università degli Studi di Milano

Affiliation: Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences -Production, Landscape, Agroenergy (DiSAA)

Ernestina Casiraghi

Address: Via Mangiagalli, 25, 20133 – Milano (MI)

Institution: Università degli Studi di Milano

Affiliation: Department of Food, Enviromental and Nutritional Sciences – DeFENS

Sponsor

Fellowship sponsor: Università degli Studi di Milano

Publications

Publications with impact factor:

A.
