The 2021.1 issue discusses the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the banking industry and the real economy. The papers assess the supportive role of banks to the recovery and the liquidity of non-financial institutions, the regulatory initiatives adopted to boost credit and support the real sector, the “exit strategy” from the pandemic crisis and emergency policies and contributes to the debate about the future of banks and of a well-developed Capital Market Union in Europe.

This issue will be launched on 20th May 2021 at an open on-line Round Table hosted by the Florence School of Banking and Finance – European University Institute.

European Economy – Banks, Regulation and the Real Sector is an online journal to foster an informal and fair debate among academics, institutional representatives and bankers on the current banking regulation framework and its effects on banking activity and the real economy.

Thanks to the generous support of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and of the Bank of Italy and to the new publisher, the Centro Studi Luca d’Agliano, the journal is being published again, with the usual format. The new and the old issues can be downloaded from: https://european-economy.eu/
