Bis vor wenigen Jahrzehnten war diese Region von Eis bedeckt. Es war bis vor wenigen Jahrzehnten von Eis bedeckt. Diese Umgebung ist als <em>Sandur<\/em> bekannt, ein aus dem Isl\u00e4ndischen stammender Begriff f\u00fcr flache Oberfl\u00e4chen, die durch fluvioglaziale Ablagerungen entstanden sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Sandurs<\/em> entstehen, wenn Gletscherwasser Sand, Kies und Ger\u00f6ll mitf\u00fchrt, die sich ablagern, wenn die Str\u00f6mung langsamer wird. Zus\u00e4tzlich zu diesem Prozess tragen Erdrutsche und Schuttstr\u00f6me, die durch die Schwerkraft angetrieben werden, zur Gestaltung der Landschaft bei. Das Ergebnis ist eine gro\u00dfe Fl\u00e4che mit komplexen Ablagerungen, die von verzweigten B\u00e4chen durchzogen ist und deren Lage sich im Laufe der Zeit ver\u00e4ndert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Im Fall des Forni-Gletschers ist die <em>Sandur<\/em> in den letzten 20 Jahren deutlich sichtbar geworden, da sich der Gletscherrand zur\u00fcckgezogen hat. Heute ist sie ein nat\u00fcrliches Labor, in dem die Interaktion zwischen Eis, Wasser und Sedimenten beobachtet werden kann und in dem sich die j\u00fcngste Geschichte des Gletschers \u201elesen\u201d l\u00e4sst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Linguistische Neugierde:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Der aus der isl\u00e4ndischen Sprache stammende Begriff \u201e<em>Sandur<\/em>\u201c bedeutet w\u00f6rtlich \u201eSand\u201c oder \u201eSandebene\u201c. In Island sind diese Landschaften spektakul\u00e4r und sehr weitl\u00e4ufig. Sie entstehen vor gro\u00dfen Gletschern, deren Schmelzwasser gro\u00dfe Mengen an Sedimenten mit sich f\u00fchrt. Einige isl\u00e4ndische <em>Sandurs<\/em>, wie der Skei\u00f0ar\u00e1rsandur, geh\u00f6ren zu den gr\u00f6\u00dften der Welt und erstrecken sich \u00fcber Hunderte Quadratkilometer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Geomorphologen haben den Begriff \u00fcbernommen, um damit \u00e4hnliche Umgebungen in den Alpen zu beschreiben, beispielsweise die Landschaft vor dem Forni-Gletscher.
