In Wirklichkeit sind sie reiche, komplexe und \u00fcberraschend lebendige \u00d6kosysteme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Drei Welten in einer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Gletscher beherbergen drei unterschiedliche Lebensr\u00e4ume:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Supraglazialer Lebensraum: die Oberfl\u00e4che des Eises, wo Licht und saisonales Schmelzwasser das Leben von Algen, Cyanobakterien und winzigen Gliederf\u00fc\u00dfern erm\u00f6glichen. Hier findet sich die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Biodiversit\u00e4t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Endoglazialer Lebensraum: im Inneren des Eises, wo mikrobielle Gemeinschaften in winzigen Wasserblasen leben, die im Eis eingeschlossen sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Subglazialer Lebensraum: an der Basis des Gletschers, wo sich das Leben an Dunkelheit und Druck anpasst und sich von chemischen Verbindungen im Gestein ern\u00e4hrt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ein reiches und komplexes Mikrokosmos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Auf der Gletscheroberfl\u00e4che entwickeln sich winzige Nahrungsketten: Cyanobakterien und Algen produzieren durch Photosynthese organisches Material; kleine Gliederf\u00fc\u00dfer wie Springschw\u00e4nze ern\u00e4hren sich von mikrobiellen R\u00fcckst\u00e4nden; R\u00e4uber wie K\u00e4fer und Spinnen schlie\u00dfen die Nahrungskette ab. Diese Gemeinschaften, die mit modernen genomischen und umweltanalytischen Methoden untersucht werden, unterscheiden sich selbst zwischen benachbarten Gletschern, was auf eine hohe globale Biodiversit\u00e4t hinweist. Beim Schmelzen der Gletscher k\u00f6nnen diese Schadstoffe in die Tiefe gelangen.
