Project 1: Heterogeneous catalysts for the K-A oil production
K-A Oil (ketone-alcohol oil) is a mixture of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol. It is an important industrial feedstock used primarily in the production of nylons, which are among the most important polymers in the market, but also adipic acid and plasticizers with minor solvent uses. Within this project, the student will have the opportunity to prepare and test heterogeneous catalysts for the production of K-A oil, and learn how to characterize the products and the catalysts with different techniques.
