Atmospheric pollution is characterized by gaseous contaminants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are potentially dangerous for human health. In the last few years, the lab has developed new photo-active materials (building materials, ceramics, cements…) for the abatement of these types of pollutants. The combination of sorbents and photo-active materials, characterized by a high porosity, would allow to pre-concentrate contaminants on the surface (e.g., during the night) and subsequently to degrade them. The goal of this research is to study an innovative method in order to couple photo-active catalysts with sorbents materials, that are employed for the abatement of gaseous and odorous substances.
