Martino Bolognesi – Prof. Bolognesi’s career is centered on the study of protein structure through X-ray crystallography and simulation approaches, with more than 470 papers published to date on the structural biology of metallo-proteins, enzymes, viral proteins, proteins related to neurodegeneration and to cancer, transcription factors and antigenic proteins (more than 260 original depositions in the Protein Data Bank as of January 2018). Prof. Bolognesi has been one of the leading figures opening the field of protein structural biology through X-ray diffraction in Italy, setting schools and labs in different locations (U. of Pavia, U. of Genoa, and since 2005 U. of Milano), and training scholars who are today distinguished structural biologists in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. As of 2017 Prof. Bolognesi started a new single particle cryo EM facility, a step towards the achievement of an integrated structural biology center at the University of Milano. Prof. Bolognesi’s scientific activity, besides national programs, has been supported by grants from EC FP5, FP6, and FP7. During his career he has been (and is) member of different international science advisory committees (SACs and Review panels), Associate Editor of scientific Journals, and issued lectures at academic or private scientific institutions, in several different Countries (Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, England, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Israel, Russia, China, USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, …). Prof. Bolognesi is EMBO member (1995), and s.c. Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (2012). (H-index 66, ca. 18.000 Google Scholar citations – see http://www.researchgate.net/profile/Martino_Bolognesi ).
