Laura Fumagalli
BIOGRAPHY
Laura Fumagalli is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Milan, Italy. She received her Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Science at university of Milan in 2004 defending a thesis regarding “ Design, Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of ligands targeting alpha-1 adrenergic receptor subtypes. Her research interests focus on medicinal chemistry and chemical biology.
Her approach to the medicinal chemistry is based on the traditional cycle “design-synthesis-test-QSAR analysis The chemical biology interest started when she joined as visiting scientist the Professor Tawfik’s group at the Weizmann Institute of Sciences, Israel, in 2014. Her motto in chemical biology is “develop chemistry to understand biology”. Moreover she has discovered a new and promising antimicrobial agent which has been patented by the University of Milan. Beside these main interests she takes up the challenge of resolving and isolating enantiomers of bioactive molecules developing feasible methods. She strongly believes in a sustainable development so she is motivated in developing alternative synthetic methods in order to globally minimize the environmental impact.
