Prof in short

I graduated at the University of Milano in Political Sciences – plural – in 1986 (theย  pic should come roughly from that year …).

I thought I was writing a thesis in political sociology, but it turned out to be in public policy. This is how I discovered the importance of mutual exclusion in taxonomies (and in the academy).

For this reason, I decided to apply only to PhD programs in Political Science – singular – and 8016572411914448397.jpghad the chance to win a scholarship at the University of Florence, where I took my PhD in 1990.

I did the standard works of any “unskilled” PhD: translations, interviews, research assistance, short courses, data collection, data input and some basic data analyses. I even worked for a while at ISPI, the Institute for international and political studies, before eventually receiving a post-doc grant by the University of Milano.

I became lecturer in 1994, associate professor in 2000 and full professor in 2005. I’ve been Head of the Department of Social and Political Sciences from 2012 to 2014, coordinator of the Ba programme in Political Sciences (SPO) from 2014 to 2017, and since 2022 I am member of the Board of directors of my university.

I have taught Comparative Politics, Political Science, Public Administration and European Politics at the University of Milano, Pavia and for the Bocconi university.
