"Mirror symmetry for surfaces and smoothing cusp singularities"
Abstract: I will discuss recent work with Sean Keel and Paul Hacking, which constructs a mirror to any pair (Y,D), where Y is a rational surface and D is an anti-canonical cycle of rational curves. One byproduct of this construction is that we obtain a proof of an old conjecture of Looijenga determining precisely which cusp singularities are smoothable.
