SEMINARIO DI GEOMETRIA ALGEBRICA

Giovedì 30 Giugno 2011, alle ore 14.30

presso l’aula C del Dipartimento di Matematica dell’Università di Milano,

il prof. Luis E. Solá Conde (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos { Madrid)

terrà un seminario dal titolo

Vector bundles on Fano manifolds

Abstract: This is an account on a joint work with R. Muoz and G. Occhetta, inwhich we deal with vector bundles of rank two on a Fano manifold X with b2 = b4 =1. More concretely, we study the nef and pseudoe®ective cones of the corresponding projectivizations and show how these cones are related to the decomposability of the vector bundle. From these results we infer several consequences: we obtain the complete list of P1-bundles over X that have a second P1-bundle structure, classify all the uniform rank two vector bundles on this class of Fano manifolds and show the stability of indecomposable Fano bundles (with one exception on P2).

EXPANSION IN LINEAR GROUPS, SPECTRAL GAPS AND APPLICATIONS

Te’: ore 16.00, Sala Rappresentanza

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Jean Bourgain has been described as “one of the most brilliant analysts of our times” in the official press release announcing that Bourgain was to be awarded the prestigious Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences in 2010. Bourgain’s profound and fundamental contributions, by way of primarily analytical techniques, have resulted in the solutions to important and long-standing problems in probability theory, statistical mechanics, nonlinear partial differential equations, dynamical systems, combinatorics, and numbertheory. Analytical techniques that he has developedhavebecome standard tools in such diverse areas as the geometry of Banach spaces, harmonic analysis, ergodic theory, and nonlinear partial differential equations. A short list of the awards bestowed upon Bourgain include the Salem Prize in 1983, the Cartan Prize in 1990 and the Fields Medal in 1994, in addition to the Shaw Prize. Bourgain is currently Professor of Mathematics at School of Mathematics of the Institute for Advanced Study.

Andrea Berti

Title: Adeles, Ideles and a first look at Global Class Field Theory.

Abstract: This lecture is divided into two parts.
In the first part we will develop tools for an adelic/idelic approach to number theory. More in detail, we will introduce restrict topological product to define Adeles/Ideles, we will state and discuss Strong Approximation Theorem and give an Idelic interpretation of the Ray Class Groups of a number field. Time permitting, we will also give, as application, either a proof of the finiteness of the Class Group of a number field or of the Dirichlet’s Unit Theorem.
In the second part we will introduce the Global case of Class Field Theory, trying to understand (at least the statement of) the Global Reciprocity Law.
