Antonella Gervasini (orcid: 0001-6525-7948) is currently Full Professor in the disciplines of physical chemistry (SSD: CHIM / 02) at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Milan (UNIMI) and works in the Department of Chemistry.

Education and career: Antonella Gervasini obtained the “European Baccalaureate” at “Scuola Europea” of Varese, then she continued her career at the University of Milano up to gaining PhD in Chemistry Sciences (1987)

From 1987 to 1992, she worked as industrial researcher and then as scientific coordinator of the group of “characterization of heterogeneous catalysts” in the catalysis research group of Eni in S. Donato Milanese. In May 1992, she entered at the University of Milano as researcher in the Faculty of Sciences (Department of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry) where in 2001 she gained the position of Associate Professor. In 2014, she gained the scientific qualification as Full Professor for physico-chemical disciplines.

In the period 1987-1993, she performed several stages of research at the “Institut de Recherches sur la Catalyse et l’Environnement“ (IRCELYON) of CNRS in Villeurbanne, France, by developing joined research activities with students exchange and funded projects. In 2003, she gained the position of “Chercheur Associé” at IRCELYON for six months. In 2010, she gained the position of Invited Professor at the University of Lille-1 Sciences and Technology for one month. In August 2012, she was invited in the University of Nanjing (Jiangsu region) for a tour of conferences.

Didactic Activity: From 1992, she teaches several courses of physical chemistry and catalysis to the students of Industrial Chemistry (first level, Master level, and Doctorate students) in the Faculty of Sciences of UNIMI. She has been supervisor of more than 80 Master theses and of several Ph.D. theses of students of the UNIMI, and of several Ph.D. theses of University of Lyon-1 and University of Lille-1, France.

Financed Research Projects: She has participated at numerous Italian research programs supplied by funds from the Ministry of University and Public Research and from CNR, for several of these she was main responsible. She received grants from UE (INCO-Copernicus Project 1999-2002) being part of a project with several scientific groups from west- and east- Europe. She has been advisor for catalysis of industrial partners (e.g., Saint Gobain) and holder of research projects with Italian and foreign industrial partners (Bracco, Italcementi, VELP, Solvay, Belgium).

Research activity: research activity is framed in different subjects of the experimental physical-chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. In particular, she developed studies in i) solid acidity, from catalyst preparation to catalytic activity for various applications of gas-solid heterogeneous catalysis ii) environmental catalysis (de-NOx, de-VOCs, and methane catalytic combustion) with emphasis on the optimization of the catalysts and their characterization; and iii) saccharide biomass valorization by heterogeneous acid catalysts in green conditions (aqueous solvent).

The activity is proved by more than 160 scientific papers and by several patents, and by more than 200 contributions to national and international Congresses and Meetings.

She is regularly invited as lecturer to hold talks and llessons in several Meetings and in international Schools. H index (da wos e scopus): 35; total citations: more than 3600 (da wos).
