People » Tiziana Avola

Tiziana Avola is a Ph.D. Student of the Doctoral Programme in Chimica Industriale/Industrial Chemistry (XXXVII cycle).

In particular, Tiziana has been awarded a PhD Scholarship –PON  Innovation and Green co-funded by A2A S.p.A.

The project of Tiziana is titled “Metalli e Cristalli (Metals & Crystals)” and is focused on the critical design of ecofriendly inorganic materials for wastewater and surface water treatment.

EDUCATION

2018 – 2021

Master’s degree in Chemistry at University of Palermo with an experimental thesis on the adsorption capacity of bovine serum albumin-based aggregates towards lead (II) ions in different ionic media and at different pHs and temperatures, by using the Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry technique to check the amount of the metal ion removed by BSA aggregate under the supervision of Prof. Alberto Pettignano.

2011 – 2018

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at University of Palermo with an experimental thesis on the physico-chemical characterization of the interaction between chitosan (positively charged biopolymer) and two different kinds of nanocellulose, such as TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose and carboxymethyl nanocellulose, both negatively charged, under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Lazzara.

OTHER TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

01/07/2021 – 31/12/2021

Post-graduate scholarship for research activity based on the removal of toxic metal ions from water by using Amyloid Superstructures based biomaterials in Prof. Valeria Vetri’s and Prof. Alberto Pettignano’s laboratories, Department of Physics and Chemistry – Emilio Segrè, University of Palermo.
