Inorganic materials

By coupling experimental and computational techniques, such as X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray absorprion spectroscopy and quantum simulations of bulk crystals, we access the structure of inorganic materials (oxides and sulfides) at various length scales.

Photocatalysis

Exploiting advanced synchrotron X-ray sources, we investigate how the local coordination of transition metals and the presence of defects determines selected intensive and measurable properties at the macroscale. In particular, we deal with

  • nanostructured TiO2-based photocatalysts for environmental remediation;
  • structure-property relationships in metal-organic frameworks with nonlinear optical response for theranostic applications;
  • correlations among structure and optical properties in ferroelectric Ta/Nb perovskite materials for applications in advanced optics;
  • magnetoresistant materials;
  • phase transition in perovskite ionic conductors.
