Marco Scavini

Expertise: inorganic synthesis, synchrotron radiation and neutron diffraction, calorimetry, defect thermodynamics

Marco Scavini’s research activity deals with the synthesis and the characterisation of functional oxides for energy storage and production and for sensor devices. In particular, for the former class of materials, he studied doped ceria, double perovskites, manganite and cuprate superconductors, while for the latter ones Europium and Strontium titanates as well as Fe3O4@Au nanohybrids were investigated. M. Scavini’s group has deepen the relationship among structure, defect thermodynamics and physical properties in materials of scientific and technological interest aiming to improve their performances.

In the last few years he has developed some competences in the real space analysis of diffraction data, using the so called Pair Distribution Function (PDF). In this contest, M. Scavini performed about 50 experiments at European large research facilities such as the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble, France and the Institute Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble, France and collaborated with many international research groups.

Marco Scavini is author of 53 scientific articles on international journals, 1 book, 1 book chapter and about 60 communications to national and international conferences.
