DC UNIMI

UNIMIDC Dipartimento di Chimica, Università degli Studi di Milano(“DC UNIMI”)
SMARTMATLAB host and lead partner

Established in 1924, Università degli Studi di Milano is one of the largest universities in Italy in terms of teaching staff and research activity. Research is conducted by a staff of approximately 5,000 professors and researchers (plus some hundreds PhD students, research fellows, post-docs, assistants, etc.) in about 100 departments or research centres.

The Department of Chemistry includes about 80 professors and researchers, in different research groups involving overall more than 100 PhD students, post-docs, research fellows and technical assistants, having an internationally recognized expertise in many fields of theoretical and applied chemistry. In particular, a key interdisciplinary research object, strategic for the Department, is the development of advanced and smart, both organic and inorganic, materials for applications in the fields of

  • energetics
  • photo-electroluminescence
  • optoelectronics
  • non linear optics
  • photocatalysis
  • inorganic semiconductors, e.g. metal oxides
  • organic semiconductors and conducting polymers
  • functional surfaces, sensors, MIPs and MOFs

DC UNIMI coordinates the SmartMatLab project and hosts the SmartMatLab Center facilities.

The SmartMatLab coordinator, Elena Selli, is Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at DC UNIMI, and a specialist in Photochemistry, Photophysics and Photocatalysis.

Nearly 50 UNIMI DC professors, researchers and technicians are involved in the SMARTMATLAB project, providing the complementary expertises detailed in the “research lines” page.
