Non-legislative resolution on the implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in the EU institutional framework – European Parliament – 12 February 2019

On 12 February 2019, the European Parliament adopted a non-legislative resolution on the implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in the EU institutional framework.

Among other things, including calling on the Commission to take action at EU level to uphold and fulfil the provisions of the Charter, and to ensure that EU law is adapted to take account of the legal and jurisprudential developments of international human rights law, the preambular section:

“27.  Reminds the EU institutions of their human rights obligations within the scope of the Charter, also in the field of trade policy; encourages the Commission to carry out specific human rights impact assessments prior to the conclusion of any trade negotiation by making reference to the UN Guiding Principles on human rights impact assessments of trade and investment agreements;”
