Upcoming course: Energy Geostructures (Advanced Edition)

This 25-hour course offers a deep dive into shallow geothermal energy and geosciences for energy production, with a specific focus on the innovative technology of energy geostructures. By exploring how thermally activated geotechnical structures enable efficient heat exchange with the ground, the program balances rigorous theoretical analysis with practical design applications. Through dedicated illustrative examples and real-world case studies, students will gain the essential skills to integrate sustainable energy solutions into modern infrastructure.

Upcoming course: Boron isotopes: understanding boron geochemistry and its application as aPH and CO2 PROXY

This course provides a rigorous exploration of boron isotope studies, the chemistry of boron in the oceans and biomineralisation, and paleo-CO2 levels. The program serves as an intensive educational framework designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of this element and its significant applications within the Earth Sciences.

Marco Gerola awarded with the IAEG prize

FEBRUARY 11, 2026

We are very happy to announce that, Marco Gerola, former PhD student of the XXXVII cycle, was awarded with the IAEG (International Association for Engineering Geology and Environment – Gruppo italiano) for the best PhD Thesis dedicated to the memory of Prof. Vincenzo Cotecchia. The thesis, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Francesco Cecinato,  focused on the numerical, experimental, and analytical investigation of the thermal behaviour of innovative energy geostructures, with particular reference to systems such as Energy Quay Walls and Cutter Soil Mix Energy Walls, contributing to the development of technological solutions relevant to the energy transition in the infrastructure sector.
