The field trip provides knowledge on the Ligurian-Piedmont oceanic lithosphere and its evolution through rifting, spreading, and subduction. Key localities in the Western Alps, Prealps, and the Northern Apennines will be visited. The analysis of lithostratigraphy, structures, mineral and fossil associations, and geochronological data will enable to correlate processes through time and across vertical and horizontal space

The course provides advanced training on the influence of geological structures and lithology on groundwater flow and hydrochemical characteristics. It emphasizes the integration of geological and hydrogeological data to understand aquifer behavior and geochemical evolution, with a focus on real-world water resources management challenges in arid and semi-arid climates.
