Alessandra Puglisi

was born in Busto Arsizio on 1976.

She received her PhD in Industrial Chemistry in 2003 working on the synthesis and immobilization of organic catalysts on soluble polymer under the supervision of Prof. Mauro Cinquini.

In 2004 she joined the laboratories of Prof. Amir H. Hoveyda (Boston College) to work on the enantioselective enolethers ring-closing metathesis promoted by chiral molybdenum catalysts. She had the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Richard R. Schrock (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, 2005.

In 2005-2008 she was as a post-doctoral fellow at University of Milan working on the synthesis of new chiral bifunctional structures, thioureas and prolinamides, to be used as organocatalysts in stereoselective reactions. In 2009-2010 she was Research Scientist at the Molecular Sciences and Technologies Institute (ISTM) of CNR in the Mind in Italy initiative between Regione Lombardia and CNR. She worked on the synthesis, purification, functionalization and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles.

In December 2010 she became Researcher in the Chemistry Department of University of Milan. Her main scientific interests are in the field of stereoselective organocatalysis, in particular, the discovery and development of new chiral organic catalysts and their application to stereoselective synthesis and the synthesis, characterization and synthetic applications of chiral supported catalysts.
