Seminar, 13 March 2025

It is pleasure to share with you the invitation to the DMEM Opening Ceremony keynote lecture “Neuron-glia metabolic coupling mediated by lactate: relevance for neuroenergetics, plasticity and neuroprotection”, which will be held by Prof. Pierre J. Magistretti on March 13 at 4.30 PM.

The seminar will take place at the Room G09, Via Golgi 19.

Prof. Magistretti is a Distinguished Professor at the BESE Division of KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) and an Emeritus Professor at the Brain Mind Institute of EPFL and the Departments of Psychiatry of UNIL/CHUV and UNIGE.

He discovered the central role of glial cells in brain neuroenergetics and identified the fundamental physiological function of lactate in the brain.

He has received the Camillo Golgi Medal, the Emil Kraepelin Chair, the Goethe Award from the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Ott Prize from the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. He is a member of the Academia Europaea and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2016, he shared the IPSEN Foundation Prize with David Attwell and Marcus Raichle and he is an honorary member of the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences.
