Development of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) models to support decision-making processes and evaluation of opportunities to optimize production, promote the circular economy and reduce resource waste in agri-food and food packaging supply chains.
Project Synopsis
Food sustainability concept can be understood as preparing food without wasting natural resources and without being harmful to the environment or health.
To achieve a sustainable food system, over monitoring resources and energy consumptions, it is essential to reduce food waste and loss as much as possible.
Through the LCA is possible to actively interact and monitor the sustainability level of food system starting from the food product, considering the packaging, and not neglecting the end of life scenarios.
The objective of the project will be to develop tools based on the Life Cycle Assessment to support decisions taken in the food supply chain with particular regard to the interaction between product and packaging. The models will suggest strategic choices with reduced environmental impact, in line with the principles of circular economy, in a logic of sustainable development (Life Cycle Thinking).
