Research area: Agri-Environment

Research topic: The honey production chain, a network of interactions: suitability of the territory, beekeeping issues and honey quality.

Project Synopsis

The project will focus on honey as a product of Apis mellifera L. 1758 and other social Apoidea.  One of the main goals is to update the information on the worldwide honey production of A. mellifera and other bee species, with a particular focus on stingless bees widespread in the southern regions of America. In the course of the three years, various laboratory analysis will be performed on the honey matrix (e.g. floristic composition investigations through the study of pollens and study of honey quality) and field studies on the insect/environment relationship, in order to assess, how A. mellifera honey reflects the characteristics of the patrolling areas and can become a model for environmental assessment in terms of floral biodiversity.
