Research topic

Sustainable management of invasive arthropods of particular interest for fruit production

Project Synopsis

Climate change and globalization are exacerbating the emergence and spread of invasive insects that can cause serious damages to crops, forests, and other natural resources. In recent decades, new solutions with an increased sustainability have been developed to control insect pests.

In this context, the sustainable management of invasive pests of fruit crops will be the focus of the following three-year project. In particular, the goal will be to update the current knowledge on newly introduced insect species that cause or are likely to cause significant economic losses in fruit production, with particular emphasis on their biological control. To this end, native and non-native natural enemies will be evaluated as control agents. Field and laboratory research will be carried out to identify all the insects involved through morphological and molecular techniques and to evaluate their bioethology.
