Below are the first announcements of the short lectures organized for 2024:
“A One-Health perspective to tackle antibiotic resistance spread and impact in agri-food systems”
The seminar will focus on agri-food ecosystems discussing the major antibiotic resistance (AR) sources, the mechanisms behind AR determinants spread into bacterial communities, and the methodologies adopted to investigate the environmental dimension of AR. Possible mitigation strategies to tackle the problem will be also discussed.
Curriculum/a:
- agri-environment
- chemistry and biochemistry
- food science and nutrition
When: April 12th 2024
“I have a PhD in Food Systems, what are my work and career options?”
A cycle of seminars will be held by R&D managers of food companies with the aim to explain which expertise are requested by companies looking for personnel having a PhD. R&D manager from companies operating in the food, nutraceutical, probiotics, food ingredients, food technologies and agri-food sector will be involved.
Curriculum/a:
- agri-environment
- chemistry and biochemistry
- food science and nutrition
When: June 2024
“A journey inside foods: microscopy techniques and their applications to food systems”
The seminary will present different microscopy techniques focussing on those particularly interesting in food research including confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Case studies related to different food matrix as well as to interaction between food, microorganisms and material will be presented aiming to illustrate a complete scenario of experimental challenges. Also, histochemical techniques for localization of single molecules will be shown through correlative microscopy approaches. In conclusion, image analysis will be applied to perform quantitative measurements.
Curriculum:
- food science and nutrition
- chemistry and biochemistry
When: November 2024
“E-Sensing 4 FOOD”
The seminars intend to provide an overview of common applications and potential of e-sensing technologies in the agro-food sector, according to the Industry 5.0 principles focused on a sustainable, human-centric and resilient European industry. Two seminars will be planned about non-targeted approaches, mainly based on Infrared (IR) spectroscopy and Image Analysis, for the evaluation of food integrity (i.e., quality, authenticity, and safety). Seminar 1) Non-targeted IR spectroscopy applications in the food sector. Seminar 2 Image Analysis for food integrity.
Curriculum/a:
- agri-environment
- chemistry and biochemistry
- food science and nutrition
When: January 2025
“Green chemical and biotechnological processes for the development of added-value products from agri-food biomasses and by-products”
This cycle of lectures aims at giving an overview on the most innovative and novel techniques for the isolation, purification, and modification of phytochemicals obtained from agrifood residues. Particular attention will be paid on novel techniques for extraction of valuable molecules from complex matrices, their modification through fermentation technology and innovative biocatalysis. An industrial perspective will be provided as conclusion.
