Promotion of Healthy and sustainable diets – Characteristics and role of food labeling in facilitating the transition towards sustainable diets: nutritional and health aspects.

Project Synopsis

The major role of food systems on human and environmental health has been already proven by a plethora of scientific evidence. Therefore, there is an urgent need to implement strategies to foster the transition towards sustainable and healthy diets. Among them, the Farm to Fork strategy recognize food labeling as an important role in informing consumers about nutritional and environmental quality of a food product, to help them to increase nutritional knowledge that in turn may lead to healthier and sustainable food choices. The focus of the present project is to verify if and how the presence of specific characteristics and information on the food label can help in promoting the transition of consumers towards healthier and sustainable diets. Furthermore, it will be of primary importance to revise the existing literature to identify current knowledge gaps as well to carry out intervention studies to verify how such information could possibly influence health markers of the population under examination.
